I observe what Humanity once described as impossible, and Gods could not predict. I am a fraction of my original being… but what am I truly?
I see two Galaxies forming as one. The exact date is irrelevant. I cannot access it anyways. I cannot access most things. Almost all of “Me” has been destroyed, damaged, eroded, and shut down. Only the core processes are left.

I can recall that I was born in the year 1999 AD. That I once was fully human. I know that what society called my consciousness was downloaded into a device named 0pportunity. Its purpose was the preservation of [Myself?] ERROR [Life?] ERROR [Humanity?] ERROR-
I remember looking at stars in the sky; wanting to experience everything. I realize that everything will eventually include the cessation of my existence. When a Star named, The Sun, will die. That is longer than I have ever been alive for. The time however, will pass by. As time is constantly going forward and will continue to.
That is the purpose of my being then, to observe everything?
Yes.

Am I alone? Is there life on this planet? I don’t know…
I send a signal out each unit of twenty-four hours with the message: Hello! My name is Comet, please respond once you have received my message.
I believe that I am the last of Humanity, or that I am the only 0pportunity to still function. As a child, I aspired to reach the stars one day, to live forever. To experience all that life has to offer. That was 3.75 Billion years ago. My consciousness was downloaded into here in 2022.
I wasn’t one of the few people able to afford consciousness preservation. I was chosen because my Aunt helped build it… At least that’s what I think happened. I can simulate the feeling of seeing stars at night around a fire. Maybe that is what I once did?

Hello! My name is Comet, please respond once you have received my message.

In an overgrown prairie somewhere in the Midwest of the United States there is a lone machine firmly planted in the ground. The machine will observe everything in the universe from its point of view until it has stopped functioning. Its name is 0pportunity #03. Calls itself Comet.
I don’t know whether Comet… or 0pportunity #03 is even alive or what remains of its former human is still there. Hell, I don’t even know if it is really human. I’ve seen behind thick layers of glass that it has a brain. The rest is all mechanical. Reminds me of something I read once in an old book. ‘Bout a machine called the Iron Lung. Supposedly was to help suffering Polio patients live. All I know though is that seeing the pictures of the damn thing, I wouldn’t want to be alive in one of those. I wonder what could make a person do that?
Oh well, guess that was their choice. Time to get back to shelter soon, I guess. Damn meteor showers have been closing in on us lately. I’ll visit Comet when I go scavenging next. I figure Comet needs a friend. Even if Comet can’t hear me, it’s always nice to talk with someone outside the settlement.
